The oarfish lives deep in the ocean and may grow up to 36 feet long! It even made it in the Guiness Book of World Records. They are surely at the origin of the myth of the Sea Serpent. Encounters are very rare, but they are sometimes found dead on shores after storms. In Japanese mythology they are seen as a doomsday fish and are said to portend earthquakes.
